4 Critical Issues To Remember About Egg Sales and Marketing

The WORLD EGG DAY 2019 has come and gone. Now, what happens after?

Are we going to wait until 2020 to do the needful in generating more awareness on the benefits of egg consumption?

I sincerely hope not!

Egg consumption awareness campaign should be a constant pastime for Nigerian Poultry people.

In a country where per year consumption per day per individual is on the average of less than 100 eggs, surely we have a long way to go.

Here below are the 4 critical issues on sales and marketing of eggs for Nigerian poultry people to take to mind and act upon throughout the year regardless of WORLD EGG DAY CELEBRATION.

1. EGGS CONSUMPTION AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS SHOULD BE OBSESSIVELY PURSUED EVERY DAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.

2. POULTRY FARMERS SHOULD HARMONIZE THEIR ACTS TOGETHER AND FIND WAYS TO ESTABLISH UNIFORM PRICES AT LEAST ON REGIONAL BASIS TO ENCOURAGE FARMERS TO CONTINUE THEIR FARMING VENTURES.

3. NIGERIAN POULTRY PEOPLE SHOULD ESTABLISH AND FUND VIBRANT MARKETING DEPARTMENTS THAT WILL HAVE THE SINGULAR OBJECTIVE OF RAISING THE MARKET DEMAND FOR EGGS NATIONWIDE

4. NIGERIAN POULTRY PEOPLE SHOULD DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO INFLUENCE GOVERNMENT POLICIES THAT WILL FAVOUR THE CONTINUAL INTEREST OF THE INVESTORS IN COMMITTING MORE RESOURCES TO PRODUCE MORE EGGS AT GOOD PROFITS TO FEED THE TEEMING POPULACE

The issues above may seem far fetched but that is the way to go if we really want to continue to survive and thrive in the business of poultry egg production.

Keep Expanding Demand For Egg Consumption. Marketing is the way to market expansion for products. I was in discussion with two friends recently and when we talked about egg glut, one of them jokingly reminded us that in spite of the so called egg glut, egg is still being sold at higher prices at the consumer end.

Of course, what my friend observed is true. And this is the problem. The margins on egg sales are largely going to the Middlemen who are not willing to relinquish their hold on their predetermined higher margins. They buy eggs from producers at increasingly low prices and keep selling to the final consumers at higher prices.

This is where producers should take action. Egg producers should focus on expanding the demand for egg consumption by aggressive and consistent promotion on the value of egg as regards healthy nutrition.

Egg Producers should do everything possible to sell direct to the end users at better margins but slightly lesser margins than what the Middlemen are selling.

Producers should have the edge any day and any time than the Middlemen. True. Isn't it? If egg producers can consistently do this, they will expand the market for egg consumption and provide better opportunities to make more money in egg production venture.

As I always tell farmers in all my seminars, never forget that the first rule of business is to make sure you make profits.

Sell it more than it cost you to produce it!

The Power Of Cooperative Marketing For Your Egg Production Business

We have established the fact that marketing is critical if a farmer wants to make money in the layer production business. Poultry farmers who lack marketing sense are often the victims of egg glut from time to time whenever it occurs.

The essence of marketing is for the farmers to increasingly find ways to link up directly to the final consumer. This will not only expand the market for eggs but it will also improve the profit margins for the laboring farmers.

One of the ways to achieve this is through cooperative marketing. Different egg producers in a particular area can bond together to do cooperative marketing activities in order to reach the population in their area for increased consumption of eggs and at better margins for them.

The power of this cooperative marketing can be awesome if the members are determined to take the necessary steps to dominate a particular area for increased poultry eggs visibility. In this case, the bonded farmers will share the cost of promotional activities.

The question will always be that, โ€œHow will the farmer recoup his or her spending or how will they be able to sell more eggs at better margins in their different areas?โ€

Hereโ€™s my advice. The participating farmers should specifically target a thriving area of their community and get a space where they can concentrate efforts and make it an EGG ARENA. Then money should be spent to direct consumers to this EGG ARENA through relentless advertising and promotion.

This idea will work if the cooperating farmers are determined to make it work!
